Antony Price, the groundbreaking style architect who crafted some of the most iconic looks favored by artists from David Bowie to Roxy Music and even royalty like Queen Camilla, has died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that featured in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he debuted his newest line in London, his first in more than 30 years. Singer Lily Allen showcased a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

An Enduring Influence

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to enroll at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the form-fitting, button-fly pants that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to merge tailoring for all genders along with his masterful technique in designing body-hugging looks cemented his status as a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

By the 1990s, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, such as various looks for her American tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in conjunction with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

The fashion world laments the passing to a true visionary whose influence on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
