Grief as Beloved South African DJ Killed in the Heart of Johannesburg.

A prominent South African media personality and entertainer has been murdered in the metropolis of Johannesburg, causing national outrage across a nation battling persistent crime.

Warrick Stock, widely recognized as DJ Warras, was attacked in the downtown area on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Police said the forty-year-old entertainer was confronted by three suspects, with one began shooting at him before escaping on foot.

The reason behind the shooting has not been established and no arrests have been made, police said.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was targeted as he was leaving a premises in the vicinity of the Carlton Centre.

He had spent several hours at the site managing the setup of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by squatters, it was reported.

"Authorities believe the deceased was confronted by three unknown suspects after he parked his car, and they began shooting at him before running from the location on foot," an official report stated.

Surveillance tape showed a suspect with dreadlocked hair and wearing what looked like a security uniform opening fire on Stock before running away.

The DJ tried to run away after he was wounded but succumbed to his injuries across the street.

It was further revealed that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the assault.

Crucial forensic evidence, like cartridges, were recovered from the crime scene.

Authorities have requested members of the public who may have witnessed the attack to contact them.

"Our information indicates they walked a long distance after the attack, and officers have been attempting to locate them to determine their location," stated a police chief.

His sister, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to process his death.

"Words fail me. I cannot express the pain," were her words.
"We know he was a champion for numerous individuals. He was a fearless commentator about topics not many people were willing to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."

She appealed to the public to not sharing graphic images from the incident, saying this was an deeply traumatic time, particularly for Stock's young family.

In a release, the channel he worked for declared Stock was known for his presence, kindness and intelligent commentary, adding that his legacy "will live on".
