Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his future following a further heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th loss in twelve games, representing the club's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and struggling then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I am OK with my role. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they have faith in me.”
He added, “Through standard exchanges I feel the belief. However I've not talked to them after this game yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known failings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with results so bad.”
He concluded, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always fight.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and why people call it the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
