The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Substantial Extension for Two More Seasons.
During the fall season, Adult Swim welcomed back its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, not long after, the channel launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a serene talk show. At a time often marked by dark humor, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for a further two seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa ample opportunity to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series centers on three well-mannered teenage brothers whose defining trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.
"I’m so grateful to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and spread the word," remarked Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who found the show and championed its uniquely offbeat appeal.
"All of you showed up for this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something unexpectedly cozy about following this endearing family navigate their everyday routines.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we need to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns set to continue, Cappa has the opportunity to help usher in that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the beloved Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is currently streaming on HBO Max.
