The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting opening credits. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while also hinting at multiple agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.

Personally, The series' intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was memorable and fun. At the time, I hadn't even watched the second campaign at that point, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of this party, I can't help but feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its intro seems to be one of them.

This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from Nov. 19. For those eager before that, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
