The President Invites Relatives of Injured Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He noted that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Heartbreaking Incident
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a attack on Wednesday in DC.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Invitation
The president stated he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to her,” the president informed journalists. “And likewise with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Community members assembled over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to honor Sarah.
Both they had been fulfilling duties with the military unit as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid law enforcement in Washington DC.
Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that teachers desired. She behaved with calm resilience, a bright grin and a optimistic attitude that lifted those around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, stated to the media. “She was kind, caring and always eager to assist people.”
Funeral arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Government Adjustments
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to pause asylum applications and halt granting visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
Andrew Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor Morrisey mentioned on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi informed a news show that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Beckstrom, from her hometown, graduated from her high school in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with honor, according to the military.
“She had a lot of kindness and she absolutely had fortitude,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
