Authorities mentioned they were alerted by a resident who noticed a car in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Roughly fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials state early analysis suggest the liquid was most likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.

City officials announced they were trying "to solve the case" and have requested to the public for information.

A high-ranking official said the incident left him without words and had to be solved quickly.

"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
